    He left Congress Party on 21 March 2014 and joined BJP. Also, he resigned from15th Lok Sabha on 05 April 2014.

    The 250-km Jan Jagran Padyatra began on 11 March 1985 from Gandhi Maidan, Siliguri (West Bengal) and ended at Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. It also supported and re-ignited the long-standing demand for recognition of the Nepali language. With the success of this yatra language was included in 8th Schedule of the Constitution.

    Satpal Maharaj lead the Bharat Jago (India, Awake!) Padyatra, which began on 24 September 1983 and covered 600 km from Badrinath to Delhi. His yatra was in between the dangerous mountainous terrain. He walked through 500 villages and met more than 30,000 people along the way.
